Warm Weather Skincare
A few tips from Amanda Storey, Editorial Contributor at Yahoo! and Makeup Artist for Benefit Cosmetics LVMH
I feel a little weird writing an article on how to make your makeup last through warm weather when it's cloudy in San Francisco and I am wearing a hoodie while writing this. But even on this foggy spring day it's not hard to remember how awful it feels to have your makeup melt off when it's hot.
Of course, less-is-more is the best approach, but sometimes a bare face isn't going to cut it. For those times when you have dark circles, a blemish, or just want to wear makeup these are my favorite products, tips, and tricks for a flawless face that will last all summer.
I became insanely addicted to any kind of spritzing product last year. They are so easy and I cannot find an excuse not to add them to my routine. Skindinavia makes a seriously awesome line of spray-on primers and makeup-setting sprays. My absolute favorites are the oil-control Makeup Primer spray and the Bridal Makeup Finishing spray. These two extend the wear and improve the overall look of my makeup. I do not use powder, so they really help everything stay put while being completely invisible on my face. Super fast, super easy - and they really work!
PS: I purchase the Makeup Artist Bridal Kit that includes large 8 oz. bottles of both the primer and the bridal makeup finishing spray. It's a great value and lasts forever!
Now that these have become a permanent part of the Revlon Collection, I have no qualms about getting people hooked on them. These chubby crayons are great. They are easy to apply and no lip liner is needed. They have a comfortable and feathery matte texture that wears all day and -- BONUS! -- the colors are awesome too. What's not to love? For around $10 at your local Walgreens I suggest you buy every color like I did. I especially love the shade Sultry, the perfect everyday pinky brown.
If you want to save time, not wear makeup, or just look fabulous, book an appointment at your local Benefit Boutique. I highly recommend booking The Trio, a lash/brow tint with brow clean-up for $45 and their beautiful airbrush tan for $42. Both services will give you the perfect "I woke up like this" summertime glow.
PS: Walk-Ins are always welcome! Pop into the Benefit Chestnut Street Boutique for insta-glam service. (Cute babies and dogs are always encouraged.)
I'm not a fan of wearing foundation in hot weather, but sometimes I have to. When I need a flawless complexion that lasts all day and all night, I turn to Rimmel Lasting Finish 25 Hour Foundation. This long-wearing, full-coverage foundation actually looks beautiful on the skin and it isn't cakey at all! Mix it with a little moisturizer for a lovely sheer foundation, or pat on with a dampened beauty blender sponge for a natural, yet completely perfect looking face. Available at most local CVS and Walgreens.
I never, ever leave the house without this mega-lightweight sunscreen spray. I discovered this in the great spritz splurge of last year and have replenished it time and time again. Warm-weatherproofing your skin is Priority Number One! This SPF 100 spray is quick, easy, and non-sticky, so daily application and reapplication is a simple process. I spray all of my exposed skin, including face and scalp, and I haven't experienced a sunburn since I began my obsession.
I have been enamored by glamorous, oversized sun hats for as long as I can remember. You can wear them with anything, they protect your skin, AND they make you look like a vacationing incognito movie star. This Eugenia Kim sun hat exudes effortless glam and I love the "do not disturb" message scrolled across the brim. Throw this statement hat on and the rest of your makeup and outfit can be minimal but still chic.
I got my first pair of Quay sunglasses in a swag bag from Lucky Magazine and I haven't stopped buying them since. They are durable, current and so affordable that you won't hate yourself if you accidentally lose them or sit on them. These Penny Lanes give me a 1970's Stevie Nicks vibe and I have to admit I am having a hard time not putting them in my basket.
Sigh...All of this warm weather talk makes this foggy day even more unbearable! What products will you switch to once we warm up? Any favorite product recipes that create a flawless hot weather makeup look?
